Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia agree to cooperate

AirAsia

Malaysia Airlines and budget airline AirAsia have agreed to work together for the first time by reducing domestic flights during the Muslim fasting month, according to this AP report. “This is one of the happiest moments for AirAsia since our inception,” said AirAsia CE Tony Fernandes. Both airlines will scale back the frequency of domestic flights on October 1 to 15 to avoid wasting resources during Ramadan. Since its launch, AirAsia has cut into Malaysia Airlines’ business in the short-flight sector. The companies have occasionally sniped at each other over domestic issues in the industry, though both sides have long insisted they’d be willing to work together for mutual benefit.
