Budget carriers negligible in Philippines
The Freeman reports that despite its reputed popularity for budget fare, the market for low cost carriers in the Philippines remains very low. Statistics from the Manila International Airport Authority show that there is only one low cost carrier flying at NAIA (Jetstar Asia) while there is none at the Mactan Cebu International Airport. In August, Jetstar Asia posted close to 4,000 passengers (out of 500,000 passengers from 33 international airlines calling at NAIA). There were additional flights to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark,by AirAsia where authorities reported a 9.7% growth in arrivals. Three budget airlines (AirAsia, Tiger Airways and Jetstar Asia) have launched new routes to Clark.
