The Foreign minister of Timor-Leste, Jose Ramos-Horta told AFP in a recent interview that they’d been in contact with Air Asia and Silk Air about opening direct links from Dili to either Malaysia or Singapore. That would be a boon for tourism to the fledging nation — particularly divers. Currently airfares to Timor-Leste are amongst the highest in the world for the distance travelled — the route to Darwin being particularly extortionate.
