Don Muang to reopen

The Nation reports that Thailand’s Transport Ministry has decided to allow non-connecting domestic flights to use Don Muang airport. It said it would take between 45 day and 60 days to prepare Don Muang to accept flights and international flights will continue to use Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Jetstar have announced a Valentine’s Day special deal — 1 to Buy, 2 to Fly. A 50% discount is available for every two tickets purchased. Destinations include Bangkok,Phuket, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Manila, Hong Kong, Taipei and Rangoon. Bookings must be made by 28 January and travel made by 31 March 2007.

Jetstar to begin Sydney to KL flights from 9 September

The Business Times reports that Jetstar is scheduled to commence Sydney to Kuala Lumpur operations from September 9, 2007. Tiger planning IPO end of 2007

CNA reports that Tiger Airways plans an IPO by the end of this year, enabling the carrier to raise substantial funds for expansion. The carrier last year confirmed an order for eight Airbus A320 planes worth around US$500m which will increase its fleet size to 20 by 2010.

Tiger passenger numbers soar

CNA reports that Tiger Airways carried 1.2m passengers in 2006, up 75% on 2005. This has come after an aggressive expansion of routes last year, including expanding coverage to three cities in China. From its launch in 2004 Tiger Airways coverage has expanded from two aircraft to nine and three destinations to 17.

NokAir launches Bangkok to Krabi route

DPA reports that Nok Air on Tuesday launched its first flight to Krabi. As of Tuesday Nok Air will operate twice daily flights from Bangkok to Krabi, using a Boeing 737-400, with capacity up to 156 seats.

Australia and Malaysia in talks

The Australian reports that Australia and Malaysia are in talks to open a low-cost air routes, primarily flown by Jetstar and AirAsia. Plans hold for Jetstar to operate from KL in return for AirAsia gaining landing rights into Australia.
