China Southern adds Burma

Xinhua reports that China Southern on Monday opened an air route from Guangzhou to Rangoon, bringing the total number of air links between China and Myanmar to three. China Southern will fly Airbus A-319s three times a week — Monday, Wednesday and Saturday after an initial 30-day promotion period.

EU bans all Indonesian carriers

ATW Online reports that the European Commission has banned all 51 registered Indonesian carriers from operating into the EU. While no Indonesian airlines currently fly to EU member states, an EU spokesperson warned that “European citisens should avoid flying with these carriers. They are really unsafe”.

Tiger announces first domestic route

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Tiger Airways have announced it will begin Melbourne to Darwin flights in December for as little as A$80 one way. Jetstar instantly struck back, delivering on its promise to remain the lowest priced domestic carrier. It bettered Tiger’s offer by offering flights from Melbourne to Darwin for $79 inclusive [...]

Cheap travel in Australia prepares for take off

Nok Air delays IPO

Bloomberg reports that Nok Air has delayed a plan for an IPO to expand its fleet. The company may sell shares to the public in 2009, CEO Patee Sarasin said Friday. The airline wants to build its fleet up to 20 planes before holding an IPO, he added. “India is our growth market,” Patee said. [...]
