The Bangkok Post reports that Nok Air is taking a look at its overall business plan as its aggressive growth strategy may not bring out the desired results. Spiking fuel prices, cut-throat competition, oversupply of aircraft seats, the entry of new competitors and a costly lesson from its first overseas flight between Bangkok and Bangalore have all caused the airline to reassess its direction. ”We think we have rushed a bit too much in the past six months, and we need to now take stock, cool down and become more cautious in what we do next,” Nok Air CE Patee Sarasin said. Patee indicated that the airline’s strategic plan could be radically revamped, from plans to expand overseas flights to beefing up its workforce to switching to new fuel-efficient and more capable jetliners.

The airline is withdrawing its operations on the Bangalore-Bangkok route this month with its last flight operating on November 23, 2007. Nok Air started operations in India by launching daily Bangalore-Bangkok flight in June 2007 and it was the first international destination for Nok Air. This is the second LCC flying from South East Asia that will suspend flights to Bangalore. Early this year, JetStar withdrew its five flights per week service on the Bangalore-Singapore sector citing low passenger load factor.
