Tiger gets OK to fly to six Indian cities

Tiger leases two more

AFP reports that Tiger Airways announced Thursday it will lease two new Airbus A320 planes from the commercial aviation services arm of General Electric. Under the agreement, GE Commercial Aviation Services will buy the two aircraft from Tiger upon delivery from Airbus in 2009 and lease them back to the carrier for 12 years.

The Herald Sun reports that when Tiger commences flights from the no-frills terminal in Melbourne, passengers should expect a bare bones experience. No aerobridges and no reserved seating for starters. An airport spokesman went on to say the budget terminal feels more like a railway station than an airport.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Tiger is believed to be planning to rapidly expand its operations from Asia into Australia. They already fly into Perth and Darwin and should they gain rights into other key Australian cities they could do very well, especially when compared to Jetstars smaller rage of destinations in Asia.

Tiger planning IPO end of 2007

CNA reports that Tiger Airways plans an IPO by the end of this year, enabling the carrier to raise substantial funds for expansion. The carrier last year confirmed an order for eight Airbus A320 planes worth around US$500m which will increase its fleet size to 20 by 2010.
