Tiger to take on Jetstar

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Tiger is believed to be planning to rapidly expand its operations from Asia into Australia. They already fly into Perth and Darwin and should they gain rights into other key Australian cities they could do very well, especially when compared to Jetstars smaller rage of destinations in Asia.

Tiger planning IPO end of 2007

CNA reports that Tiger Airways plans an IPO by the end of this year, enabling the carrier to raise substantial funds for expansion. The carrier last year confirmed an order for eight Airbus A320 planes worth around US$500m which will increase its fleet size to 20 by 2010.

Tiger passenger numbers soar

CNA reports that Tiger Airways carried 1.2m passengers in 2006, up 75% on 2005. This has come after an aggressive expansion of routes last year, including expanding coverage to three cities in China. From its launch in 2004 Tiger Airways coverage has expanded from two aircraft to nine and three destinations to 17.

Tiger adds Udon Thani

Singapore to Udon Thani may not be the hottest air-route that springs to mind, but it’s just about as close as you can get to Singapore to Vientiane. Tiger is planning to start this route according to eTTR, flying three times weekly from 9 January. Fares are starting at 4,200B including tax and insurance.

Tiger modifies approach to disabled

TodayOnline reports that Tiger, after being flayed earlier in 2006 for its attitude towards disabled passengers is modifying its behaviour. CE Tony Davis said that Tiger is in discussions with ground handlers at all its destinations to offer a special mobile chair for disabled passengers. SEair inks deal with Tiger

The Phillipine News reports that South East Asian Airlines (SEair) has signed a contract with Tiger Airways to promote Philippine travel and tourism and simultaneously boost SEair’s regional market presence. The joint announcement said SEair would lease from two A320s from Tiger, with the aircraft permanently based in Clark.

Tiger plans to add India, Sri Lanka

Dpa reports that Tiger is seeking to fly to five destinations in India and one in Sri Lanka after receiving approval from Singaporean authorities. Planned destinations include Goa, Kolkata and Kochi in Idia and Colombo in Sri Lanka. No word on when the routes would actually start up.
