Jetstar

Jetstar LogoJetstar Asia is a Singapore-based partnership between Qantas, Tony Chew, FF Wong and Temasek Holdings, with Qantas being the largest shareholder with 49%. It is regional arm of the Australian domestic airline Jetstar, which was launched by Qantas.

From the start Jetstar has struggled to gain desired landing rights in some Southeast Asian countries and one of the airline’s first routes was the rather unusual Singapore to Pattaya route — supposedly aimed at Singaporean golfers heading to Thailand for a few rounds on the back nine. We flew that route twice and neither time did the flight have more than ten passengers — it was like having your own personal Airbus. That route has since been axed and Jetstar Asia now flies more traditional routes out of its Singapore hub — including Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, Hong Kong, Manila, Taipei and Phuket. They have a fleet of Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft, with Boeing Dreamliners on the way.

In mid 2005, Jetstar began a partnership with ValuAir which gave it access to destinations in Indonesia including Bali (which is currently served by Australian parent Jetstar out of Australia and ValuAir out of Singapore). In 2007 stakeholder Qantas bought a substantial stake in Vietnamese domestic carrier Pacific Airlines and it is expected that this purchase will be used to facilitate Jetstar’s access into Vietnam. Jetstar already has a number of code-shared flights from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City with Pacific Airlines.

You can see their full schedule information here.

See our ValuAir page for flights operated under the ValuAir name.
